Freeze Dried Flowers
What is Freeze Drying?
Freeze drying is the removal of water vapor from fresh flowers while they are in a frozen state. Freeze drying gives superior results to their methods of drying flowers and allows the flowers to retain their 3D shape, form and color. The fresh flowers are place on trays and then loaded in to a freeze drying cylinder chamber. The moisture is locked in to the cellular tissue of the flowers by freezing them solid. The air inside the cylinder chamber is pumped out which creates a vacuum. The ice within the frozen flowers slowly changes to a vapor. When these vapors contact the colder refrigerated ice condenser they change their state to a solid which is ice. This cycle of solid, vapor and then solid is described as sublimation. The end product is natural looking in appearance as if the flower was still fresh.
We have a 5 step preservation process
Step 1:
Once we receive your bouquet it is photographed from various angles. We take an inventory of all your flowers. Each bloom is the re hydrated.
Step 2:
The flowers are then pre-treated with a special solution to make them more shatter resistant, durable and this helps them retain their natural color. Your wedding bouquet flowers are then loaded onto trays and frozen to prepare them for the freeze drying process.
Step 3:
Your wedding flowers are placed in the freeze dryer chamber and remain under the vacuum for 12 to 16 days. Our new technology equipment allows us to determine when all the moisture has been released from the flowers.
Step 4:
Once the flowers have been removed a wire stem is attached to each flower head to prepare for our color enhancement and sealing solution.
Step 5:
Your wedding bouquet is now ready to be reconstructed to it original arrangement and placed in a 3D shadow box or captured in resin.

Like other dried preservation methods freeze drying can change the color of the flowers and foliage slightly. To help with this we always color treat our preserved flowers to bring the color back as close as possible. The shape will stay the same but the flowers will lose their fresh look. The flowers will look slightly antiqued after preservation. Some colors may deepen slightly. Reds turn a dark burgundy and white flowers will turn a light shade of cream.
